Steal Soul

Necromancy School – Level 5 – Forbidden

Type: Quick Spell, using a Reaction

Reach: 30 feet

Duration: Instantaneous

Effect: When a creature within reach dies, you can cast that spell in response and steal the soul of that creature.

You then trap the soul of that creature in 1 object, such as a ring or a boot for example. The soul remains trapped there until the item is destroyed, or until someone cast a Dispell spell on that object, which then releases the soul.

While the soul is trapped, it is in a constant state of agony and it cannot be revived by any means. Any creature touching that object can also mentally communicate with that soul. You must still share a language in order to communicate.

The item can also gain special traits depending on the soul it is carrying. A weak soul of a creature of Tier 1 or 2 could only grant a small benefit or access to a Level 0 spell, while a strong soul of Tier 4 or 5 could grant a powerful effect. Your GM decides which effect the soul grants based on the stored soul. If the soul is completely unwilling to help, the item may carry a curse instead of a benefit.

Souls are highly valuable resources used in powerful forbidden rituals. However, these rituals are macabre, and often result in disaster…

Curse: You are closer to becoming an Undead. If you die, you become an Undead creature with the same Tier that you had. You do not control this Undead, and it just mindlessly Attacks any creature that is not Undead.
