Alter Timeline

Chronomancy School – Level 7 – Forbidden

Type: Ritual Spell

Material: 1 Very Rare Magical Gem

Casting Time: 1 month

Reach: 20 feet

Duration: Instantaneous

Effect: You travel to an alternative timeline.

When you perform this ritual, you can make 1 “What if?” question. The spell will then teleport you and all creatures within reach to an alternate timeline where the question you ask is true.

So if you ask something like: “What if there were no Humanoids?” you would go to an alternate timeline where all humanoids are either extinct or never even managed to exist. If you ask something like: “What if there were only Fiends?” you could travel to a timeline where Hell overtook all other dimensions.

However, the Gods normally forbid travels to other timelines. For this reason, all timelines you travel with this spell are inherently broken and have a nightmarish aspect in them. That timeline might be devoid of deities, it might be overtaken by chaotic abominations or anything like that. Your GM is the one that decides how this new timeline might be.

These timelines are called the Broken Time Lands, and are known for being one of the most dangerous places to ever exist due to their infinite possibilities.

If you ask for something completely otherworldly and bizarre, like: “What if all creatures were Gods?” or “What if all creatures have baby legs?”, you would likely travel to an even worse timeline that is devoid of logic and no rules whatsoever. These timelines are known as the Void Lands and it is said that anyone that travels there is forever doomed.

Each timeline has no effect on each other. Changing something in a timeline will have no effect in other timelines.

Curse: Your mind becomes extremely sensitive to chronomancy spells and other effects that mess with time itself. Whenever you are affected by a Chronomancy spell or similar effect that affects time, you take 1d8 psychic and 1d8 brain damage.

Divine Curse: The Gods forbid travel between timelines, as it would be extremely dangerous to let creatures from other timelines to invade.

Once you cast this spell, you become banned from your original timeline and you cannot travel back.

The only way to break this Curse is by making an offer to a deity to bring a valuable object from another timeline.

This will greatly vary depending on the deity you ask. A deity of parties might ask for the best wine that exists in all timelines, while a deity of war might ask for the most powerful weapon in all timelines.

Either way, when you cast this spell to travel back to your original timeline, the object you brought for that deity is then used as part of the materials to cast this spell.
